Plumtree’s BARLEY

Barley was born in 2003, he came to Plumtree as a five year old. He had been bought through York horse sales. Unfortunately, the lady that bought him struggled with him and a friend of Gemma’s contacted her asking for help. Barely had an accident, we suspect it involved the farriers tripod, as when he came he was terrified of being shod, as a consequence of the accident he lost an eye. The vet did an amazing job and gave Barley a prosthetic eye. It just looks like he always has one eye closed. He is incredibly well adjusted to only having one eye. During lockdown Gemma trained him with a view to competing him with British Dressage, because he is so talented. However, once at the event, the collecting ring frightened him due to the other horses coming and going. He found this terrifying and after the 3rd event the decision was made that it wasn’t fair to him.

A bonus is that now he has the confidence and education to work up to Elementary level dressage. He has had some fantastic results competing with the worldwide,  Online competition, Dressage Addicts. Not only is he talented at dressage, he’s a fantastic jumper , with lots of ability.

Tommy

Tommy was born in 2013 and first came to the yard to be trained to carriage drive in 2018. He has the most wonderful attitude to anything that you do with him. He’s great to handle for all ages, happy for small children to handle and ride him. However, his talent is definitely carriage driving, he is a cob with fantastic paces, and self carriage. Tommy came back to us in 2023 as a  livery, we were so excited to have him rejoin our equine family. Since then he has also driven pairs and in my pony team. He just loves to work and enjoys all the attention that he receives at the yard. He is a favourite amongst many of our clients. In both riding and carriage driving, he is a confidence giver to everyone .

In the monthly, worldwide, dressage competition, Dressage Addict, Tommy is currently in 3rd place for our club horses and ponies. This truly reflects his versatility and talents.
